Sugar Valley Lake (SVL) is located just south of Mound City, Kansas on Highway 7. Parking, Starting and Finishing Line, Transition area and after party for the race will be at 25 Maple Drive. You have been assigned a race number, there are multiple races and it is imperative you identify yourself with numbers on your arms and legs. We will have markers available and you will be asked to mark yourself so volunteers can identify you during the race. You will also be asked to add two numbers on your arm for your benefit, the first will be the turnaround number you are assigned and the second will be the number of laps you need to complete on the run.
The Sandbagger Committee spent innumerable hours evaluating data to determine your exact start time to encourage a race to the finish. Any further protests will be subject to shame and mockery. Do not be late for your start, the race will begin at 8 am and there will not be do-overs. Remember this is an actual race designed so every participant has an equal chance to win. You will receive a Sandbagger half pint glass for completing the miles but someone will earn a lifetime of adoration and hazing for being first over the finish line.
The swim will start on the Trotter dock and proceed in a counter-clockwise rectangle marked by buoys. The transition area will be located up the hill from the swim area.
Sean Jackson rule, although the course will be marked, there will not be any sympathy shown for anyone not owning their route! Do not follow the person in front of you, they might be riding a different distance. Follow your map! If you are first across the finish you will be asked to verify your route and will not win if there were any corners cut. This is an open road course. You will almost certainly see more deer than cars during your ride but do not be complacent. Drafting is allowed.
Per Sandbagger tradition, 12 miles from the end of the bike portion of the race we will take a moment to recognize those who fought in the 2nd largest cavalry battle in the Civil War. Sugar Valley is formed by Mine Creek and the battle of Mine Creek was fought a few miles from this intersection. All participants have the choice to take a shot of Union Horse bourbon or can choose to read the written history of the Battle of Mine Creek aloud for 60 seconds. Please choose wisely.
www.unionhorse.com The run transition will be in the exact same transition area. You will then finish the race by running the appropriate number of 0.6 mile laps. There will be a live scoreboard
allowing you to understand where you stand in the race during your personal time in the pain cave. If you are first across the finish line your route will be verified and you will not win if you did not complete the course. The winner will receive a prestigious Sandbagger rock! If you have a mechanical or bonk bad enough to call a jeep and accept the hazing from your friends, please call Jeff Hall at 816-877-6724 and he will arrange a Jeep pickup.
Friends and family are invited to join in the festivities of the day. If you have a friend or family member attending and would be willing to serve other participants in a volunteer role, please respond back to the committee. All of the jobs would be easy and adult beverages would be provided. Please plan on joining us immediately following the race as drinks and food will be provided. Please bring a lawn chair for the food, drink, and awards ceremony. Have a great Sandbagger, the Committee looks forward to seeing each of you on the 16th! Sandbagger Committee
